What is Tripling?
A temporarily tripled room is a bedroom originally designed for two residents, but is spacious enough to accommodate three. Assigning residents to a temporary space in a tripled room provides a student the opportunity to begin their time at WCU living on-campus until we can secure a vacant space.
Tripling Credits
Residents assigned to a triple bedroom will receive a reimbursement of 25% of the room rate for every night that they live in triple housing, during the fall semester. Full rent is due per the lease and the credit will be applied in a timely manner after you are detripled.
USH utilizes the three-bedroom double suite (3×2) and one-bedroom double suite (1×1) for tripling. For the three bedroom double suite (3×2), only the residents of the the E/F/G bedroom receive the reimbursement of 25% of the room rate for every night that they live in triple housing. For the one bedroom double suite (1×1), all residents will receive the reimbursement of 25% of the room rate for every night that they live in triple housing during the fall semester.
De-Tripling
Tripling is a temporary assignment that can last from a few weeks through the fall semester. It is our goal to de-triple bed spaces by the end of September, but this temporary arrangement may last through the end of the fall semester based on availability.
Tripled units must de-triple, at the latest, prior to the start of the spring semester. If residents in the tripled bed space cannot determine who will move to de-triple USH will de-triple the tripled bed letter (C or G bedspace). If a student in a tripled bedroom completes the Lease Termination process, and is released, the 25% room rate reimbursement will no longer apply from the date of the release.
When we are able to offer a tripled bedroom a new bed space, the available bed will be in Allegheny Hall, Brandywine Hall, or Commonwealth Hall. This may be a different suite style, which may be a higher or lower rental rate.
To assist with this process, USH encourages all residents to have an open and honest discussion regarding which resident will relocate to a new bed space. Having an open dialogue now will allow for the process to go as smooth as possible when a unit opens. If, after having a discussion, the unit is unable to determine who will relocate, USH will make this decision for the unit based on the tripled bed space.

Incoming Students could be assigned to a tripled bed space.
Tripled bedrooms are similarly set up like normal 2-person bedrooms in USH, with the exception of additional furniture. For example, there will be an extra bed/mattress, desk & chair, sets of dresser drawers, and possibly an armoire. Tripling credits are a 25% reimbursement of the room rate for every night a resident is in tripled bedroom for the fall semester. .
Credits are only given to those living in the tripled bedroom (E/F/G bedroom residents in tripled 3×2 Darlingtons, or all residents in tripled 1×1 Rosedales).
USH aims to de-triple units as quickly as possible. Some units may even be de-tripled prior to move-in if availability allows. In other cases, some units can remain tripled through September, or even to the end of the Fall semester.
If students elect to remain tripled for the spring semester and sign a permanent tripling agreement, each student will pay full semester rent, there is no reimbursement in the spring semester.
